Murder at the Olympiad is an absorbing murder mystery novel written by James Gilbert. After an American tourist is found dead in a Mexican sauna, Consular Officer Amanda Pennyworth finds herself duty-bound to solve the mystery of his death. Although the local police initially wanted to treat it as a simple case of a robbery gone wrong, Amanda sees it for what it is; a case of premeditated murder. As the list of suspects grows longer, Amanda and Sergeant Perez delve into the investigation, much to the chagrin of Captain Gonzalez who wants to put the case to bed as soon as possible. While the evidence points to an unfortunate young man, Amanda discovers a shocking revelation that sheds new light on the investigation. However, she soon learns that the truth is never enough. An enthralling mystery with a clever twist, Murder at the Olympiad will entertain fans of whodunnit stories with aplomb. Author James Gilbert's sleuth story is full of unexpected twists and turns that keep you thoroughly engaged from start to finish. Amanda is a likable protagonist who is easy to root for. She carries the narrative along with her single-minded determination to discern the truth, and she is ever reluctant to compromise on her ideals. I enjoyed her dynamic with Sergeant Perez, and those two were my favorite characters in the story. The climax felt unexpected yet makes sense in hindsight. If you're looking for a well-written murder mystery to lose yourself in, Murder at the Olympiad is the book for you.
